When Yolanda Wang returned to China from the US in 2012, she was labeled a 'leftover woman’. After experiencing failed arranged dates and pressure from distant relatives that left her feeling ’not good enough', she noticed that many women she knew were experiencing similar struggles.
To learn more about the ‘leftover women' phenomenon, Yolanda interviewed 100 men and women. Yolanda realized that before a woman could become a successful wife or mother, she should first become her best self. Yolanda found the ideal platform for expressing her ideas when she was invited to participate in 'Leftover Monologues' by Roseann Lake.
Inspired by Sheryl Sandberg’s book ‘Lean In', Yolanda also co-founded Lean-In Think Tank Circle, a Lean-In professional women's circle, in 2013. Working in Beijing with her friend and co-founder Maggie, the Circle organizes offline female leadership events to encourage Chinese women to chase their own life goals and form their own definition of success.
Think Tank Circle has formed a global team to support women’s career and life development in China and to offer career and life guidance to young professionals. They interviewed over 100 successful women from different industries, sharing their stories on WeChat. The Circle has helped launch circles in other cities such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Guiyang and Changsha.
She was one of the BBC's '100 Women of 2014', recipient of the 'Young Wonderful Outstanding Woman Award of Beijing’ in 2015, and has spoken at TEDxJNJ and TEDxCUC.
